The labour force in British Columbia 

According to the job bank website, the relaxation of public health restrictions in February allowed many employers to start scouring the job market once again as they returned to operating at full capacity for the first time in two years. This caused a decrease in the province’s unemployment rate from 5.1% in January to 4.9% in February, as approximately 16,700 entered the labour market. 

In February, British Columbia’s unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level since the start of the pandemic and was the third-lowest of all western provinces.    The average salary for someone in tech in BC is between $56,000 to $126,000 annually.
2. Health – The health industry is always a great field to enter. You have the satisfaction of working in a sector that is based on helping people, which may lead to a rewarding career. These jobs include caregivers, pharmacy assistants, porters, nurses, and healthcare assistants.
   
   The average salary for a career in the healthcare industry is between $46,000 to $100,000 yearly.
3. Education – The demand for experienced elementary and secondary school teacher assistants has increased significantly since the province returned to in-person learning. Teacher assistance helps teachers while supporting students in areas of personal care, teaching, and behavioural management.
   
   When BC returned to in-person teaching, funding was increased to meet the demand for more teacher assistants. Currently, the average salary is between $49,000 and $58,000 per annum.
4. Accounting – If you are great with numbers and have a knack for tracking money, a career in accounting could be right up your alley. Specifically, payroll administrators are currently in high demand in BC. The average salary per annum is about $50,000.
5. Hospitality – The hospitality industry really took a hit during the pandemic, but as restrictions were lifted things began to shift. Currently, the hospitality industry is clambering for workers, particularly chefs and cooks. The average estimated annual salary for a cook in BC is around $45,000.
